Tribal Personal Responsibility Education Program

Through the Tribal Personal Responsibility Education Program (Tribal PREP), FYSB awards grants to Tribes and Tribal communities to develop and implement abstinence and contraceptive education adolescent pregnancy prevention programs among sexually active youth in native communities.

The Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative’s objective is to support projects that educate American Indian youth between the ages of 10 and 19 years, and pregnant and parenting youth under age 21, on abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy, sexually transmitted infection (STIs) and HIV/AIDS. We also raise awareness of the role risky behaviors play in sexual activities, understanding the effect on consent, unintended pregnancy, and transmission of STIs. We also address Adulthood Preparation Subjects concerning Healthy Relationships; Healthy Life Skills; Open Communication between children and parents, guardians, or trusted adults; Financial Literacy; Education and Career Success; and Adolescent Development.
