Event Summary: PFAS in Harvestable Goods

PFAS has been detected in many food sources that are consumed every day. This talk will explore what we know about PFAS in harvestable goods including plants and animals. PFAS can be transferred from both land, lakes, and rivers into plants and animals that we consume every day. We will explore what is known about this topic and where the research is going.

What to Expect:

  • Intended Audience: This event is intended for community members, health care professionals, environmentalists, policymakers, and anyone interested in learning more about PFAS and its impact on Tribal communities.
  • Guest Speakers: Gavin Dehnert, Emerging Contaminant Scientist with Wisconsin Sea Grant and University of Wisconsin-Madison
      • Role in PFAS: Gavin explores the impacts of PFAS in aquatic ecosystems with an emphasis on bioaccumulation into harvestable goods and health and immune function.
      • Bio: Gavin went to undergraduate school at the University of Miami (Florida) where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in marine science and biology. Following his undergraduate degree, he went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received his doctorate degree in integrative biology with a focus on aquatic toxicology. Outside of work, he enjoys pretty much anything outdoors, from hiking to triathlons.
